so yesterday (nov.11) started out well. i was so hyped up at the prospect of FINALLY getting my PRC license. i’ve been hearing all sorts of stuff through the grapvine, that we letter R’s can get it already, even if the release dates are at least a month away.
pero yun, it was a lesson learned to NEVER underestimate the incredible processing system of our government-funded institutions. first week of december pa daw pwede makuha. weird lang, kasi they said that they work alphabetically. pero sila kams, rae at fred nakuha na yung sa kanila. haaay. ah well, it’s yet another reason to go back to PRC.
after realizing my fate, i rushed back to makati to meet my mom for lunch, so that we could finally buy the one thing i have been dreaming of for years. well, not really, but the first words that came out of my mouth when the result of the june board exams came out were “weeeh!! bagong laptop na yan!!”
a macbook.
yeah i’ve basically used windows for all of my life but since my old laptop gave way and crashed last sunday, i figured, hey, maybe it really WAS high-time for this new pc.
mama can only get out of the office for lunch, and i basically slobbered my way to greenblet 3. had i been the slightest bit late i would’ve been forced to go pc-shopping with my father. and who knows how difficult that experience would’ve been.
so we get there, and i was shocked that there was only one macbook white on display; i had heard of this new aluminum casing thing but silly old me didn’t think that that meant the phasing out of the white line. the aluminum casing specs maybe better but personally i don’t like it. it just looks too much like the other brands out there.
and i wanted a piece that SCREAMS mac. so i browsed over the price range with my mom and we settled on the 2.1 ghz version of the macbook white. when the clerk checked their stocks, it turned out that they only had one unit left, a white 2.4 ghz, and we had to add about 8k. doi. of course we said yes, it’s the only white unit left.
after paying, my mother left me at the store because she needed to get back to work.
then something cool happened. the mac techs installed a couple of programs there and they were even nice enough to give me, a brand new mac user, a tutorial. the difference was astounding. the last time i bought a pc, it was a wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am kinda thing. in this apple world, they actually took the time to give users shortcuts and instructions and what-nots.
amazing. the dude even guaranteed me that the mac os was virus-proof, saying “pag yang unit nyo nagcrash dahil sa virus, ako na mismo ang magbabayad ng pagpapagawa nyan”. and for someone who just recently lost ALL, let me emphasize, ALL of her files because of a virus, that was great news.
all in all it’s not really that different; just…better. oh yeah, the 2.4ghz version has a built-in web cam. 😀 cool.
