It’s that time of the year again when the girlfriends were hankering for a catch-up chikka session. You know, for the little things we missed to post in our Viber chat room. The idea was to keep it financially low-key, so we specifically chose the restaurants in Greenbelt 1 Makati in the hopes of not making too huge a dent in our wallets.
The original plan was to meet up a little bit after noon-ish, but since they were all coming from Manila and Saturday afternoon traffic in Quirino was hell, it was almost two in the afternoon when we all met up. Needless to say, we were starved. After doing a quick round of the eateries in the area (we almost chose a Chinese place but it was too Tita’s of Manila for Ayzee, Lol), we settled in at Bistro Ravioli because hey, carbs.
The seating space was a bit cramped, but they made do with what little they had. I guess the table placements were as logical as they could be, given the limits. They added interesting pieces though, like those funky-backed chairs, the table tea lights encased in teeny bird cages and the light fixtures encased in geometric shaped wires, which gave the place a fun, hip vibe.
Here’s the menu, although I forgot to take a picture of the drinks and deserts page.
I had the Spinach and Feta Cheese Ravioli in Pasta Sauce partly because I wanted to see if their Spinach Ravioli is as good as CBTL’s. It was actually better, because just like CBTL, there was no skimping on the cheese and the spinach, and unlike CBTL, the servings were huge. The red sauce was a little tarter too, which I liked. I just wish there were two pieces of bread to mop up the sauce with.
Chenyl had the Mushroom Mozzarella Ravioli and I remember her trading me one piece for the Spinach and Feta, but I can’t really remember what it tasted like because the base red sauce was the same. She said it was good though.
Ayzee had the Garlic Seafood Spaghetti, which I didn’t get to taste because I had difficulty enough in going through my ravioli plate. Ayzee said that it was good as well and from the pictures, it looked like they did serve a generous amount of seafood.
For the mandatory desert I ordered the Panna Cotta with Strawberry. While the panna cotta did have the right texture, I found it to be a little bit bland. I assume that the idea was that the strawberries would add the much-needed flavor, but since the toping so obviously came from a can, it didn’t really do much.
All in all I liked Bistro Ravioli – the flavors of the food were to die for – not once did we reach for the saltshaker – and the servings were huge. Service was quick and except for the canned strawberries, everything else seemed hand-made. The mains were very sulit for the price, but apparently my search for the perfect panna cotta is still on. I would definitely go back to try their pizzas and their chocolate based deserts.
I don’t know about the best panna cotta but for desserts I can’t recommend Fleur de Lys’s pavlova enough.
You just have to try it.
Ooh pavlova’s an australian dessert, yeah? Color me intrigued. Where is this magical place?
