After spending a couple of hours lounging in Daranak Falls, we were more than a little bit hungry. It was already mid-afternoon and our last meal had been the McDonald’s breakfast five hours ago. Since the whole trip was more on the ‘play it by ear’ side, absolutely no research on nearby restaurants whatsoever.
The basic plan was that we were going to Waze our way back into Manila and pray we find an open restaurant along the way. Well, God seemed to have been listening to our prayers since we chanced upon this interesting looking blue building that had the most awesome view.
J parked into a vacant spot and we took our time taking lots of photos of the winding roads, the windmills and the intimidating backdrop that is the Sierra Madre.
When chose to sit inside, even though most of the other diners were sitting on the benches outside, because we needed the wall socket to charge our dying phones.
I can’t remember the exact price of the food that we ate but I remember thinking that it wasn’t so bad, considering that the servings were humongous and definitely good for sharing.
Because we were so hungry, we barely glanced at the menu and just ordered their three top best sellers. No consideration at all was taken as to how these three dishes would go well with each other, lol. It was one of the most random meals I’ve ever had.
I ordered the Bangus Belly Sinigang.
Jeremy had the Pork Sisig (so gooood).
Abby and Noreen ordered the Bulalo (a specialty of most restaurants in Tanay, I’ve heard).
Service was fast and quick – although I’m not sure if that’s still the case when the place is jam-packed full of customers. Everything that we ate was really good, way better than what I was expecting from a restaurant on top of a hill.
I would definitely go back to Café Katerina. I mean, just look at that view.
