unravelling the thoughts of an emotional blockhead

Let’s Talk About: Make Up!

Something strange has happened the past few months: I’ve steadily been purchasing make up. As someone who’s never actually been into beauty things, this is pretty weird. Almost all of my recent trips to the mall ended up with me carrying a pouch of sorts containing make up.

Years ago when I started out with just the Myra E tinted moisturizer (has this been discontinued? I haven’t seen one in a long time) I remember being super amazed by the “coverage” that it provided. Throw in a little bit of blush and I called it a full face.

Fast-forward to a few years later and here’s what my make up collection looks like now.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way knowledgeable about how to use this stuff. I just buy things that received good reviews from my friends (C and A) and proclaimed oily skinned beauty vlogger Anne Clutz.

Foundation:

Let’s Talk About: Make Up!
Foundations – L’Oreal, Laneige and IN2IT

A couple of years ago I purchased a bottle of L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Foundation and felt like such an adult. At over seven hundred pesoss, it was single-handedly the most expensive item on my vanity but I can say that it was worth it because the whole bottle lasted me for two years. In a brave venture towards new products, I have recently purchased the L’Oreal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation, the Laneige BB Cusion and the IN2IT 5 in 1 BB Make Up Cream.

Concealer:

Concealers

I only have two, the Pink Sugar Our Lil’ Secret Concealer and LA Girl’s HD Pro Conceal cream. They both in totally different ways, which is cool because I can just choose one depending on my needs.

Powder:

Powders

Both the IN2IT Oil-Free 2 Way Powder Foundation and the Maybelline Clear Glow All in One are leftovers from the times when I actually attempted to work 2 way powder foundations. It didn’t really work out too well. Now I just use them to set the base, along with the Nichido Final Powder and Essence’s All About Matt Fixing Powder (which works well with oily skin, this is my second compact because I’ve hit pan on my first one).

Blush:

Blushes

I’m not too finicky with my blushes – years ago I picked up a random pan from the Ever Bilena stand near my dorm and I was impressed by how long the actual product lasted so I went ahead and bought a new one without checking if it was the same shade. Unfortunately the bright pink (Baby Pink) really didn’t suit my skin tone so eventually I caved and bought the original shade that I loved (Fig). The big gold box at the top is an Estee Lauder pan that my mother gifted me. As you can probably tell from the beat up packaging, this has been used and abused. There are four shades inside but I only have tiny remnants of two.

Eye shadow:

Shadows

Starting from the oldest: the Clinique travel palette that has been with me forever. I’m pretty sure that it’s expired long ago but the two neutral shades on the inside are just perfect for everyday wear and the products never seem to run out! Then somebody at work once sold me the Revlon Trio Palette. The shades are pretty but they’re all shimmery so they’re not really for everyday wear. Then I got the Art Deco Long Lasting Eye shadow Stick because, along with the rest of my face, I have extremely oily lids and the promise of the eye shadow not creasing hooked me. The latest purchase is the Urban Decay Naked Basics travel palette, which I asked C to purchase for me when she went to Singapore last November. The stick on the far right is the Revlon Photoready Eye Primer. It’s not the best one I’ve tried but I can’t throw it away yet because there’s still so much product left.

I have some more palettes on hand but they’re all big and bulky so they’re not really part of my everyday make up.

Eye Liner:

Liners

My go-to eyeliner Is the AVON GlimmerSticks in Black. People always ask how I put on the liner whenever I wear it. It’s not the best with oily lids though so I really do have to use a primer. I got the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner from a BDJ event that A invited me to. I don’t use it that often because I’m not that precise with felt tipped liners. A also gifted me the pot of Mac Longwear Fluidline Gel liner. It’s brown so I usually end up wearing it when I can be bothered to fuss with the brush.

Liquid Lipstick:

I jumped on the bandwagon and finally got myself some

I recently purchased all three – the Pink Sugar Cheek and Lip Tint in Honey Bunny and Queen Bee, plus the LA Girl Matte Pigment in Secret.

Lipstick:

Man, I love this stuff.

Maybelline Creamy Mattes because they were on sale last month. I have three shades: Burgundy Blush, Nude Embrace and Clay Crush.

These aren’t so bad either

Two shades from Ever BIlena – Dusk and Pink Flame.Let’s Talk About: Make Up!

These Random Brands: Nichido Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Champagne Nude, Revlon Kiss Me Coral and the Sophie Lipstick in Velvet Nude.

Lip Liner:Let’s Talk About: Make Up!

I have a thing for them, in case you couldn’t tell. I’m partial to how easy they glide on and the longevity suits my lazy lifestyle. These days though I put one of these liners underneath Maybelline’s Nude Embrace to tone down the color. I have two from BYS – 09 Red and 13 Natural, one from Essence in Satin Mauve, three of the liners from Sophie Martin – Innocent Red, Purely Natural and Simply Nude – and Art Deco’s Soft Lip Liner (I don’t know the shade).

Random stuff:Let’s Talk About: Make Up!

Along with the L’Oreal Infallible Foundation, I recently got the Infallible Pro Spray Set mostly because it was on sale. I use the IN2IT Waterproof Brow powder and nothing else, which would explain why my eyebrows look so funky in pictures. I only have one mascara and it is the Hypercurl from Maybelline.

Whew. I have no plans to add anything to the list above, mostly because I don’t have space in my vanity anymore. Also because I’m saving up for something big, so all luxuries must go.

But until the time when I can replace one of the items, would you have any recommendations?
