unravelling the thoughts of an emotional blockhead

if there’s one thing i’ve learned from this week, it’d have to be that when you expect, you’ll eventually be disappointed.

this may sound a bit cynical to some, but it’s true. and this is applicable to everything; be it parents, lovers, friends or even movies.

take harry potter four, for instance. i loved it. let me emphasize; i loved it. many people i’ve spoken to about it didn’t. they said that:

a) too many things were edited out
b) it didn’t stick to the book
c) they didn’t follow the lines of the characters in the book

to all the people who have these complaints, i have just one word for you all:DUH. you can’t possibly have expected that everything you’ve read in the fourth book–one of the longest in the series–will be on the silverscreen, can you? i mean, it’s one thing to hope for the best, but it’s quite another thing to be deluded.

people should judge i as a movie that’s based on a book, not as the lifesize representation of what you’ve pictured in your pretty little head while you were reading “goblet of fire”. stop your nitpicking and take a moment to appreciate the little details mike newell has added for our–readers–benifit, the scenes where he made the characters more in-character. every single scene of the twins are a perfect example, not to mention hermione’s bookishness and sirius’ funny line “ps: the bird bites”. and most of the shots were great. very refreshing from christopher columbus’ stale and unimaginative ones, and yet, for me anyways, still not up to par with alfonso cuaron {sp?}’s.

another thing that i just have to note is that newell added humor into this movie. and it’s not the old yee-haw slapstick kind too. it’s the kind that doesn’t really underestimate the intelligence of the audience. one example, i’d suppose is the scene where a heartbroken harry lies motionless on the couch, staring into the fire and clutching his golden egg. gah. it was only a couple of seconds long but i found it to be brilliant. it was so very . . . . normal

i didn’t expect anything from this movie. i’ve learned my lesson from the first two not to expect much from the harry potter series. personally, i blame columbus but what the hey. maybe my not expecting anything was the reason why i’m so elated.

either that or it’s because every single one of the boys grew up to be hotties. mweh.
