unravelling the thoughts of an emotional blockhead

Unbelievably enough, more things have happened to me this January 2009 than the last six months of last year.  Which was proof enough just how much of a recluse I was last year.  I still don’t know the reason for that; it might’ve been a prolonged period of those isolation moods that I have or maybe just it was just burn out from four years of college plus the turmoil of the board exam review.

Anyway, here are some of the things that’s happened to me that I think are noteworthy:

1.  I’ve finally mastered the discipline of waking up early.  Sure, it was difficult at first, but now I get to eat breakfast with my family again.

2.  I’ve attended the wake of somebody I didn’t like for the whole of my life but when I saw the hat that he’s always worn sitting on top of the casket, I felt pangs of sympathy for the guy.

3.  I’ve attended the baptism of a first cousin’s kid, only, that was the first time I’ve seen said first cousin.  I liked her husband though, funny dude.

4.  I’ve driven out of the subdivision to the town plaza for the first time ever.  Sure I disrupted traffic, but at least I didn’t hit anything or anybody.

5.  I’ve started exercising again, which was the remote result of my waking up early.  But I doubt I’ll lose much weight this way; I’m probably just breaking even with the food intake and the activity output.  Better than nothing though.

6. I’ve started writing again!  A cause for celebration in itself!

7.  I’ve gone the movies alone, which was a feat, as I’ve always been afraid of going to the cinema alone.  I blame that little quirk on my dad who’s always scared me with stories about this sort of thing.

8.  I’ve finished re-reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

9.  I’ve started praying the rosary again, as sort of a personal penitence for all those months and years of me not praying.

10.  I got to feel the harsh, cold slap of rejection and got over it, with the help of my friends and family.

All in all a very colorful month; I hope the momentum doesn’t die down 🙂
