Huzzah, my brother and sister-in-law dropped by to spend the remainder of the long weekend at home! It’s a little bit silly that we celebrate little things like everybody being under the same roof at the same time with eat outs, but since it doesn’t happen all that often, I guess they’re sort of justifiable.
We weren’t really sure if the malls and restaurants were open already by lunch time so it was decided that we’re to visit a restaurant that we’ve frequented over the years: the King Bee restaurant in Daang Hari road. The good thing about this restaurant is also the bad thing: it’s literally situated in the middle of nowhere so unless you get a sudden hankering for Chinese food halfway either to Cavite or to Alabang, visits to King Bee are usually scheduled.
The interior is very old-school Chinese restaurant chic with a modern twist; while the tables and chairs are what you would usually see in these types of places, there is a noticeable lack of red in the interior design. I liked that the owners showed restraint when they went for gold as the overall color and just sprinkled touches of red with the wait staff’s uniforms and the lanterns.
The hakao tray that was circulating around the room was fortunately right beside our table so as soon as we sat down, my brother, SIL and myself grabbed a plate each. We had the crabsticks with shitake mushrooms wrapped in some kind of vegetable, an order of chicken feet, and a plate of dumplings. I liked the crabsticks the best, despite me not knowing what they’re really called, lol.
We also had a Medium order of their Bird’s Nest with Crabmeat & Seafood soup, which was supposed to be good only for two to four people. The pot that arrived was so big and was so full to the brim that we all had two bowls full each. The soup itself, while warming, was a little bland and needed more saltiness.
My brother ordered a Medium sized Fried Noodles, which the waitress kindly mixed for us. I’m not usually a huge fan of fried noodles, but King Bee knows their way around this dish. I ate the most of this out of everything that we ordered.
For the mains we had the mainstays: Yang Chow Fried Rice, King Bee Fried Chicken and an order of fresh Lapu-Lapu that came straight from the fish tank. I especially liked the rice because unlike other Yang Chows, this was very egg-y and the chorizo was very tasty. The chicken was crispy but was like every other Chinese style fried chicken I’ve tasted. The fish I didn’t get to taste, because I was already too full from the noodles.
To end the meal we had the Mixed Fruit Platter (small) which took a while to arrive, but understandably so! We just had the house tea while waiting for the fruit to arrive.
King Bee service is probably one of the bigger reasons why we keep coming back to this place. The wait staffs were all knowledgeable of the food they’re serving and are quick to respond with all of our needs. Serving sizes of the food were also humongous, so there’s good value for your buck, especially if you’re with a big crowd.
We ended up doggie-bagging probably half of the food we ordered so we ended up eating more or less the same thing for dinner as well, lol. If you’re in the Las Pinas/Alabang area, I highly recommend King Bee restaurant. It’s definitely owrth a visit.
