unravelling the thoughts of an emotional blockhead

I’ve always liked old movies.  Ironically I see that there’s something incredibly new and fresh about those movies than the movies today.  It’s always more fun to watch anyway; someone almost always ends up breaking into song during old movies.

I guess what gets to me is the hint of romance that’s always, always present in every film.  No matter what the genre is, they always managed to somehow insert a love plot arc somewhere in there.

I’m particularly partial to movies that came out in the fifties.  I think my sense of humor would fit right smack down in that decade; it’s all so screwball and so jolly, I’d totally fit in that world, I think.   Besides, the dudes that I see in those types of movies are exactly what I think real gentlemen ought to be.  Oh sure, I’m all for equality just as much as the next girl out there, but

I found black and white movies to be okay, but the Technicolor movies are just adorable.  There’s something about how flat everything is, that every thing actually pops out at you.  The colors are just fabulous, and the outfits, oh my gosh, the outfits.  Personally I can’t imagine myself moving in those type of clothes, but even I have to admit that they are rather pretty.

Besides, it’s always fun to see just how people lived on this earth fifty years ago.  Okay, only a certain type of people, but still.  I find it great fun to try and figure out just what an expression from the fifties mean.  It’s just so different; it’s almost amazing to realize that it was just fifty years’ worth of development.

Anyway, if you have the time, I highly recommend watching Gigi (1958) and Gidget (1959).  They’re an absolute gas.
